Marine Energy Wales has today launched a report on the findings of an industry survey for the marine renewable energy sector in Wales.
This work builds on a 2015 piece of work which aimed to understand the contribution of the sector to Wales’ industry and economy.
The report is being launched by Cabinet Secretary Ken Skates at the Marine Energy Wales conference in Swansea today
The report demonstrates the huge potential of the sector to invigorate coastal, manufacturing and service sectors around the coast of Wales, with up to Β£1.4 billion of investment possible in the next five years.
This would be extremely rapid growth from the current levels of Β£68 million and a sector which employs 137 full-time equivalent jobs.
Commenting on the report, David Clubb said:
“Today’s conference is the perfect venue to launch this important report. We know that the potential for this sector in Wales is huge, but continued support from Welsh Government – and renewed interest from the UK Government – will be critical in ensuring that the benefits are realised for coastal communities in Wales”.
