Yesterday we published the surprising news that despite having one of the best per-capita renewable energy resources in Europe, Wales is currently the worst-performing country in terms of meeting 2020 targets for generation of renewable energy.

Wales has wonderful natural resources; a huge tidal range and strong tidal streams, great wind speed, a reasonable solar resource (for northern Europe), and good forestry assets. We also have a strong academic sector and a vibrant industrial base.

With its commitment to sustainability since 1998, Wales should be a poster child for renewable energy the world over. But while Scotland has surged to the forefront of Europe’s renewable energy leaders, Wales lags far behind.

RenewableUK Cymru exists to support a sustainable energy future for Wales, and we recognise that, despite the historic difficulties faced in harnessing our natural resources, there are reasons for optimism.

It is in this spirit of optimism that we are delighted to announce the Renewable Wales conference on 21st May.
