RenewableUK Cymru has welcomed today’s launch by the Welsh Government of the Register of Economic and Community Benefits.

Llywelyn Rhys, deputy director of RenewableUK Cymru, said:

“The onshore wind industry is already bringing significant benefits to Wales and we are pleased there is now a central place where these can be detailed.

“As an industry, we work very closely with the Welsh Government to ensure communities receive long-term positive benefits from onshore wind in Wales.  The Community Benefits Declaration, which was launched in June 2013, is a commitment from onshore wind developers and operators to a consistent and best practice approach to the way they engage with communities, as well as an assurance that economic and community benefits are maximised.

“The Register is the next step in the journey and is an opportunity to highlight what onshore wind is already bringing to Wales and also what it could potentially bring.  We now need to make sure communities are fully engaged with the developers and operators and are able to have a meaningful say about how these funds could be used to help provide economic and social prosperity to the local environment.”
