DECC today published the 10th in its series of ‘Opinion Tracker’ surveys. Good news if you like clean, green renewables. Bad news for the dwindling band of nuclear and fracking supporters.

DECC asks the same question of each technology, which is whether the respondent Strongly Supports, Supports, Neither Supports nor Opposes, Opposes, or Strongly Opposes the technology.

The ‘net support’ figure, plotted in the figure above, is the total who support minus the total who oppose each technology.

In an astonishing show of opposition for the technology, net support for fracking has dropped to zero percent. Yes, that’s 0%. One for senior Conservatives, who have made a very strong show of backing the technology to ponder.

Support for nuclear is also dropping, and that’s before the news about the unscheduled closure of two reactors became known.

Meanwhile, support for onshore wind remains massive and relatively constant, at net 56% of respondents.

Politicians take note; support for wind will win you support amongst the general public. Backing nuclear and fracking is likely to turn off supporters.
