Plaid Cymru’s Shadow Energy Minister, Llyr Gruffydd, has announced that a Plaid Cymru government will seek to deliver 100% of Wales’ electricity from renewables by 2035.

Making the announcement whilst visiting the site of the recently-consented Swansea Bay Tidal Lagoon, Llyr also stated that the Plaid commitment included a sharp focus on reducing energy use via a comprehensive retrofit programme covering the whole of Wales.

Commenting on Plaid’s announcement, David Clubb, Director of RenewableUK Cymru, said:

“Plaid’s position on energy is in strong agreement with our own. A smooth transition to a renewable energy economy is entirely achievable by 2035 and will deliver multiple benefits to the people, communities and businesses of Wales.

“We are delighted that Plaid Cymru are setting out their stall on renewables in such a positive way ahead of the 2016 National Assembly elections, and we look forward to engaging closely with the other political parties as they make their case to the voters of Wales.”
