Climate Change Minister joins Cross Party Group for Q&A session

Yesterday we were delighted to welcome Julie James MS, Climate Change Minister, for a session of the Cross Party Group on Renewable & Low Carbon Energy.

At the meeting, Delyth Jewell MS, Plaid Cymru’s spokesperson on climate change, transport and energy, was re-elected as Chair with Huw Irranca-Davies MS and Jane Dodds MS as Vice Chairs.

The Q&A session included questions on how Welsh Government can help to maximise the supply chain opportunities the proposed floating offshore wind farms in the Celtic Sea offer, as well as making sure local communities fully benefit from them.  The role that Welsh ports will have to play in achieving Wales’ decarbonisation ambitions was also discussed.

There was recognition from the Minister that work needs to be done to address the grid constraints in Wales and Welsh Government is doing all that it can to influence the work being done on this.

The Minister said she is keen to develop green hydrogen capacity in Wales and that work is underway to understand what the need is for this emerging technology.

The next meeting is scheduled to take place on Tuesday 27 June, which is Wind Energy Week.  Please email [email protected] if you would like to be added to the mailing list for the group.  The secretariat to the group is Cadno Communications.  More information is available here
