RenewableUK Cymru responds to news about mothballing of tidal energy project in north Wales
Jessica Hooper, Director of RenewableUK Cymru, said:
“It is disappointing to hear that Nova Innovation will be mothballing its tidal energy project in north Wales. Once again, we see how a lack of sufficient grid infrastructure is hampering the capability of renewable energy projects to progress, which is vital for our ability to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels and bolster our energy security here in Wales.
“Grid constraints were also identified as a barrier to renewable energy in a ‘Deep Dive’ commissioned by Welsh Government last year. There is currently a Welsh Government consultation underway on ambitious renewable energy targets, which we will be responding to. We will be working with our members, Welsh Government, National Grid, and the associated network distribution companies to identify and lobby for the anticipatory investment and change that needs to happen to enable renewable energy projects to be deployed at the pace that is required to meet our net zero ambitions here in Wales.”
