RenewableUK Cymru has welcomed today’s announcement from The Crown Estate about the latest steps in the leasing process for floating wind in the Celtic Sea.

Manon Kynaston, Assistant Director of RenewableUK Cymru, said:

“We are delighted to welcome the next step in unlocking the deployment of floating offshore wind projects in the Celtic Sea. With particular focus on refined areas of search, building a strong supply chain and early environmental work to accelerate development, the Crown Estate has updated developers on the design of the tender process for seabed leasing in the Celtic Sea; intended to provide 4GW of renewable energy capacity by 2035.

“This will support the huge potential of this floating offshore wind industry to:

  • Bring jobs, skills and investment to coastal communities in Wales and the South West of England.
  • Make a significant contribution to a diverse energy mix, energy security and generation for the net zero ambition.
  • Provide a pipeline of projects and collaboration opportunities across stakeholders and industry in Wales, Ireland and the South West of England.”
