RenewableUK Cymru, the trade body for sustainable energy and infrastructure in Wales, today describes how its membership and the wider sector is ready to make Wales a powerhouse in clean energy innovation and delivery.

David Clubb, Director of RenewableUK Cymru said:

“The new Welsh Government should know the sustainable energy sector is a willing partner, and is eager to help fulfil the wishes of the people of Wales in making this a truly sustainable country.

“Our members are ready to create jobs and prosperity across the spectrum of sustainability, including new renewable energy projects, sustainable, energy-efficient buildings, and cleaner forms of transport.

Commenting on the policy proposals of the different political manifestos, David said:

“We were delighted to see some innovative proposals from a range of parties in the lead-up to the election, and endorse a number of proposals which could hasten our transition to a sustainable economy.

“These include the Liberal Democrat proposals to introduce a carbon impact assessment for all new laws and to have a presumption in favour for planning applications for community energy; and the Plaid Cymru idea of a national not-for-profit energy company to support delivery of Government objectives.

By displacing dirty fuel sources we will improve air and water quality, reduce our greenhouse gas emissions and reduce energy bills for bill payers now and in the future.”

In its manifesto last year, RenewableUK Cymru called for a strong framework including policies such as targets for renewable energy, strong regulations in new and renovated buildings, and for the retention of business rates on renewable energy projects to remain with the local authority.
