The proud winners of the 2016 Outstanding Advocate – Organisation award.

With a significant property portfolio and land holding, the National Trust has the potential to lead by example, and to be a significant contributor to energy generation and rural development through the deployment of renewables. They have acted again and again as leaders in the sector, with examples including the world-famous marine heat source pump and the Hafod y Llan renewable energy demonstrator farm.

Two in a row; the National Trust won the coveted Best Project award in 2014

Speaking about the new members, David Clubb said:

“The success of the renewable energy team at the National Trust is exemplified by the huge recognition bestowed upon their best practice by their peers in the sector. We are delighted to welcome the National Trust which belies its image in some quarters as a conservative organisation – in the energy sector being a world-leader when it comes to adopting new techniques and technologies.

We look forward to promoting their many examples of best practice, and benefiting from their wide network and long experience in the sector.”

Keith Jones, Environmental Advisor at The National Trust, said:

“We want to show that if you can make a change in a Grade 1 listed mansion or an environmentally sensitive landscape then you can make a change anywhere. With that ethos in mind we’re proud to act as ambassadors for the sector, and as supporters for communities and individuals wishing to develop their own projects. Although we have made big strides in the deployment of energy measures at many of our special places, we still have plenty to do.

“Being part of Wales’ sustainable energy trade body will increase our profile, and help us give something back to a sector which helps us ensure our places can be looked after for everyone forever.”
