The Welsh Government has today updated its register of onshore wind projects which are in planning, consented or operational.

In the ‘smaller’ windfarm category of 5 to 50MW, there are 435MW awaiting determination, 253MW consented and 426MW operational.

The large category of >50MW sees 574MW awaiting determination, 383MW consented and 59MW operational.

The total awaiting determination, consented, and operational now sums to 2,130MW, which is more than the Welsh Government ‘target’ of 2GW. Sadly there is little prospect that all the projects awaiting determination will be consented, which means that we will continue to lag behind the rest of the UK in the growth of the wind sector.
