August was another powerful month for the wind energy sector, with instantaneous records being broken several times. Wind produced more electricity than coal for five days in total over the month, according to statistics produced by Enappsys. Wind also generated more than the nuclear fleet on 29th August.

August is traditionally a ‘low wind-speed’ month, so these figures are a harbinger of much increased generation to come over the winter months; great news for the environment as it will reduce generation from fossil fuels, and good for bill-payers as wind is a low-cost technology.
