RenewableUK Cymru, which has represented organisations in the wind, wave and tidal stream energy sector since 1978, has announced it is expanding its remit to cover all other forms of renewable energy in Wales.

In addition to wind, wave and tidal stream, which have been represented by a staff presence in Wales since 2006, RenewableUK Cymru will now also represent solar, hydro, biomass and anaerobic digestion, as well as new energy storage technologies.

Commenting on the change, David Clubb, Director of RenewableUK Cymru, said: “The mission of RenewableUK Cymru is to have a sustainable Wales which makes full use of its renewable energy resources, so it made perfect sense for us to widen our appeal and represent the full range of renewable energy sources.

“We hope the experience we have gained over the last eight years working with key opinion formers and influencers in Wales will help us to give the renewable energy sector the strong voice it needs to help it maximise the benefits to Wales.”

The first renewable energy company, outside of the wind, wave and tidal stream energy sector, to join RenewableUK Cymru is Swansea-based The Compton Group, which develops solar energy and wind turbine sites in England and Wales.

Steve Gibbins from Compton Group, said: “Wales offers huge potential for renewable energy, but it’s all too easy to focus on your own company, without looking at the bigger picture.  By being a member of RenewableUK Cymru we hope that we can play a more meaningful part in the renewable energy future of Wales.”

Benefits of being a member of RenewableUK Cymru include discounts on events, such as conferences and training courses, as well as access to expert forums and discussion groups, and a dedicated news service which provides details of upcoming tenders and business opportunities.

Annual membership of RenewableUK Cymru starts from £349 + VAT and is dependent on the size of the company.  Further information is available here.
